About Van Duzer Days

Van Duzer Days would like to especially thank our sponsors the Department of Transportation, Citizens Committee for NYC,  COAHSI, Snug Harbor for providing the stage, Illuminet Marketing, and of course all the businesses on Van Duzer.

Due to the success of Summer Streets program on Van Duzer, the NYC Department Of Transportation continues its Weekend Walks pedestrian program with Staten Island thanks to its primary sponsor, SIcoLab (Staten Island Collaboration).

About Weekend Walks from the NYC Department of Transportation

This event takes a valuable public space – our City’s streets – and opens them up to people to play, walk, bike, and breathe. Summer Streets provides more space for healthy recreation and is a part of NYC’s greening initiative by encouraging New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.

Van Duzer Street, between Beach and Wright streets, will be closed to driving traffic on Saturdays, July 23rd, 30th, August 6th, & 13th 2011 from 12 noon until 8 at night allowing pedestrians to enjoy a range of summer activities on an open city street free from cars.

Live music will be featured starting at 1pm until the event closes. Kids programs will also be offered thru out the day. Artists are encouraged to email vanduzerdays@gmail.com to participate and get more information.

The Van Duzer-Beach Street district in Stapleton is home to a thriving and growing community of more than a thousand artists. Recognized as the counter-cultural center of Staten Island, it has become a notable hub for live music and an incubator for new bands and innovative projects. The neighborhood attracts visual and performance artists, photographers, film makers, literati, and everything in between.

The district’s commerce is comprised mostly of independently owned small businesses that work hand in hand with the local artists. The main businesses include: Full Cup, Vida Restaurant, Ira’s Curiosity Shop, Bent Pages Book Store, At Da Game Bar and Lounge, Mood Swings Vintage Shop, Glin Glass, Los Catrachos, American Homes real estate, and Unburied Treasures.
